On the Big Pilot's Watch Spitfire, the case, hands, characteristic conical crown and the case back are made from 18-carat red gold, a precious metal that gives the watch a real sense of warmth. The sun-pattern finish on the slate-coloured dial has enough space to reflect light in a myriad of different ways, particularly when the watch is tilted from side to side. The brown calfskin strap from Santoni perfectly complements this watch. Within no time at all, the spring-mounted rotor and Pellaton pawl-winding system in the IWC-manufactured 51111-calibre movement build up a power reserve of over 7 days. The power reserve display at "3 o'clock" provides a reliable indication of the time remaining until the movement comes to a stop. The watch has a date display at "6 o'clock" and a central seconds hand. The red gold case encloses a soft-iron inner case that protects the movement against magnetic fields. The silhouette of a Spitfire, the British interceptor that gave this Pilot's Watch line its name, is engraved into the case back.
